Bockenheim: Schönhof-Viertel
City part: Mitte-West | State: 2025
Schönhof-Viertel is a new residential quarter on former commercial and Siemens land in western Bockenheim. Its name refers to the historic Schönhof manor, a rare reminder of the area’s older estate and village history that now stands beside contemporary development. New apartment blocks are organised around pedestrian routes, planted courtyards and public spaces, with schools, childcare, shops and social facilities intended to create a complete neighbourhood rather than an isolated housing project. The quarter connects to Rödelheimer Straße, the Industriehof and established streets around Kirchplatz, while bus routes and the nearby U6/U7 stations provide access to the rest of Frankfurt. Because construction has proceeded in stages, the atmosphere still combines finished homes, young landscaping and active building sites. The strongest contrast is between the restored manor, mature trees and the scale of the new blocks. Schönhof-Viertel shows how Bockenheim’s historic edge is being transformed into a dense, family-oriented urban district with its own emerging centre.
