Bockenheim: Bockenheimer Kirchplatz
City part: Innenstadt II | State: 2025
Bockenheimer Kirchplatz marks the old centre of Bockenheim, long before the former village became part of Frankfurt. The square and the neighbouring St. Jakob church still give this part of the district a smaller, more historic scale than the busy streets around Bockenheimer Warte. Low older houses, post-war infill and compact apartment buildings stand close together, while cafés, local shops and the public bookcase keep the square in everyday use. The U6 and U7 station beneath the area makes the Kirchplatz easy to reach without turning it into a purely transport-oriented place. Local events, including the Kirchplatzfest and the traditional St. Martin procession, reinforce its role as a neighbourhood meeting point. Leipziger Straße begins only a short walk away, but the atmosphere around the church and side streets is calmer and more residential. Its main appeal is this combination of village memory, practical city connections and a public space that still functions as Bockenheim’s local living room.
