Westend-Süd: Palmengarten
City part: Innenstadt II | State: 2025
The Palmengarten area is centred on Frankfurt’s major botanical garden, founded in the nineteenth century and known for its historic Palm House, large greenhouses, themed gardens and ornamental lake. Seasonal exhibitions, concerts and family programmes attract visitors throughout the year, while the grounds provide a lush contrast to the dense villas and apartment streets of the Westend. The neighbouring Botanischer Garten and Grüneburgpark extend the green landscape northward, creating an exceptional cluster of horticulture and recreation close to the city centre. U4, U6 and U7 at Bockenheimer Warte, trams and buses provide good access, and Siesmayerstraße carries much of the visitor movement. Outside the garden walls, embassies, schools, university facilities and elegant housing shape a quieter everyday environment. The area’s special character comes from the meeting of public destination and residential district: internationally collected plant landscapes sit within walking distance of offices, universities and some of Frankfurt’s most established urban streets.
