Postsiedlung
City part: Innenstadt II | State: 2025
Postsiedlung is a compact post-war residential estate on the western edge of Bockenheim, situated between Ludwig-Landmann-Straße and the Biegwald. Built from 1951 to 1958 by the Frankfurter Postsiedlungsverein, it consists mainly of uniform two- and three-story linear apartment blocks with rendered facades, pitched roofs and traditional shutters. The estate was originally associated with employees of the postal service and is now protected as a historic ensemble. Its defining feature is the contrast between the orderly low-rise housing and the generous lawns, trees and quiet internal streets. Direct access to the Biegwald gives the district a strong recreational character, while limited local retail makes it dependent on surrounding neighborhoods for everyday services. In Frankfurt’s statistical structure, Postsiedlung is associated with the broader Niederrad area. What makes the area distinctive is the legible contrast between inherited settlement patterns and later housing, infrastructure or redevelopment.
