Bockenheim: Rebstockpark
City part: Innenstadt II | State: 2025
Rebstockpark combines a modern residential quarter with a broad recreational landscape in western Frankfurt. The area was once associated with the Rebstock airfield, an important site in Frankfurt’s early aviation history; today apartment buildings, offices and hotels stand beside the old and new park areas. The newer landscape design uses straight paths, geometric lawns and the distinctive sunken green corridor often described as a ‘grass ravine’, while the older Rebstockpark offers mature trees and more informal routes. Rebstockbad, sports facilities and playgrounds make the area attractive for family leisure. Tram line 17 links the quarter with the main station and city centre, and the exhibition grounds and Europaviertel are close, although the A5 and large roads remain clearly present. The local atmosphere is spacious and planned rather than historically layered. What makes Rebstockpark special is the direct meeting of contemporary housing, experimental landscape architecture and traces of a former airfield within walking distance of Frankfurt’s dense western districts.
