Messestadt-Riem: Riemer Park
City part: Trudering-Riem | State: 2024
Riemer Park transformed part of the former airport into a broad contemporary landscape park. The lake, long lawns, gentle hills and wide views give the eastern city a spacious recreational area with a modern character. The planned structure of Messestadt Riem combines housing, trade-fair functions, shopping and a large landscape park on the former airport grounds. Riem is marked by the sharp contrast between its historic village core, the trade-fair infrastructure and the planned Messestadt on the former airport land. Water is not only a backdrop here; it directs walking and cycling routes, opens long views and creates informal places for rest, sport and summer recreation. Seasonal change is part of the experience: shade, flowering vegetation, autumn color and winter openness alter both the appearance and the intensity of use. Continuous paths link neighboring streets and districts, allowing the green space to function as both a destination and part of the everyday walking and cycling network.
