Preungesheim
City part: Nord-Ost | State: 2025
Preungesheim combines a historic village centre around the Romanesque-Gothic Kreuzkirche with extensive residential development along Homburger Landstraße. Older houses and small streets contrast with larger post-war estates and recent family housing. The U5 terminus and major road routes make the district an important northern transport gateway. Its character is less rural than Berkersheim or Harheim, but the surviving old centre remains clearly visible within the suburban fabric. What makes the area distinctive is the legible contrast between inherited settlement patterns and later housing, infrastructure or redevelopment. Older plot boundaries, street widths and surviving buildings make the area’s history visible in everyday movement, even where later development has altered the wider setting. Courtyards, pedestrian links and shared green spaces are therefore important to how the larger housing forms function at neighbourhood level.
