Ostend: Parlamentsplatz
City part: Bornheim/Ostend | State: 2025
Parlamentsplatz is a compact residential centre in the eastern Ostend, organised around a tree-lined square and the U7 station beneath it. Apartment buildings from the interwar and post-war periods, small shops, schools and local services give the area a practical neighbourhood scale. The square itself provides benches, greenery and space for informal meetings, while the nearby Ostpark offers much larger lawns, water and sports facilities. Wittelsbacherallee and Saalburgallee connect the quarter with Bornheim, the city centre and the Eissporthalle, but residential side streets remain comparatively calm. Compared with the rapidly redeveloped Main-side Ostend, this area feels more settled and less dominated by offices or new luxury housing. Public transport is excellent, and daily needs are concentrated along the main streets rather than in a single shopping centre. Parlamentsplatz’s distinctive quality is the balance between planned urban housing, an accessible green square and quick connections, creating a stable local centre at the meeting point of Ostend, Bornheim and Riederwald.
