Bornheim: Eissporthalle
City part: Bornheim/Ostend | State: 2025
The Eissporthalle area lies at Bornheim’s eastern edge and is defined by large sports and event facilities rather than a continuous shopping street. Frankfurt’s municipal ice rink draws skaters, ice-hockey spectators and families throughout the colder months, while the adjacent Festplatz hosts the Dippemess and other large events. The Bornheimer Hang, sports grounds and open spaces give the area a broader scale than the dense residential blocks farther west. U7, tram and bus stops at Eissporthalle/Festplatz provide strong connections, but event days can bring heavy pedestrian flows, traffic and noise. Residential streets and allotments begin close by, and the transition toward Seckbach and the A661 is clearly visible in the larger roads and more fragmented development. Outside event periods, the area can feel surprisingly open and quiet. Its special character comes from this changing rhythm: an everyday sports landscape that periodically becomes one of Frankfurt’s busiest fairgrounds, with wide views and recreational uses uncommon in central Bornheim.
