Nordend-Ost: Höhenstraße
City part: Innenstadt III | State: 2025
Höhenstraße forms a lively transition between Nordend and Bornheim around the upper section of Berger Straße. The U4 station connects directly to the city centre, while buses, bicycles and local traffic make the junction busy all day. Dense Gründerzeit buildings, post-war infill, cafés, restaurants and everyday shops create an urban streetscape that becomes quieter in the surrounding side streets. The gentle rise toward Bornheimer Hang is perceptible in views and routes, giving the area more topographic character than many central areas. Merianplatz lies to the west, while the older Bornheim centre and Günthersburgpark are easily reached on foot. Housing remains the dominant use, but the concentration of transport and ground-floor businesses gives the main axis a faster rhythm. Noise and convenience therefore vary noticeably within a few blocks. Höhenstraße is a practical neighbourhood threshold: it links two strong district identities without belonging entirely to either, combining Nordend’s dense residential fabric with Bornheim’s commercial and social energy.
