Gateway Gardens

City part: Süd | State: 2025

Gateway Gardens is a recently developed business district immediately beside Frankfurt Airport. It occupies the site of a former American military housing area and consists mainly of office buildings, hotels, conference facilities and transport-oriented services. A dedicated S-Bahn station, motorway connections and short distances to the terminals define its daily use. The district has a planned, contemporary layout with large building plots and landscaped public spaces, but little conventional neighbourhood retail or historic fabric. In Frankfurt’s statistical structure, Gateway Gardens is associated with the broader Flughafen area. What makes the area distinctive is the legible contrast between inherited settlement patterns and later housing, infrastructure or redevelopment. Older plot boundaries, street widths and surviving buildings make the area’s history visible in everyday movement, even where later development has altered the wider setting.
