Goldstein-West
City part: West | State: 2025
Goldstein-West is a low-density residential area between the Schwanheim forest and the older parts of the Goldstein settlement. Detached houses, row houses and garden plots dominate, with the Goldsteinpark forming a central landscaped space around the Schwarzbach. The western edge includes the distinctive housing ensemble designed by Frank Gehry in the 1990s. Compared with neighbouring Niederrad and the airport corridor, the district is more enclosed, green and locally residential. In Frankfurt’s statistical structure, Goldstein-West is associated with the broader Schwanheim-Goldstein area. Its special character comes from the direct adjacency of employment and infrastructure to ordinary residential environments. Courtyards, pedestrian links and shared green spaces are therefore important to how the larger housing forms function at neighbourhood level. The lower building density gives gardens, mature trees and private plots a stronger role in the streetscape than in more compact inner-city districts.
