Sachsenhausen-Süd: Waldstadion

B

City part: Süd | State: 2025

Waldstadion, officially Deutsche Bank Park, is Frankfurt’s largest sports and event complex in the City Forest and the home ground of Eintracht Frankfurt. The stadium is surrounded by training grounds, the stadium swimming pool, tennis facilities and woodland, creating an unusual combination of major-event infrastructure and green landscape. On match and concert days, S-Bahn, trams, buses and forest paths carry tens of thousands of visitors, while roads and parking areas become intensely used. Between events, the setting is much quieter and functions as part of the everyday recreational network of southern Frankfurt. The Stadion S-Bahn station and dedicated event transport provide strong connections, but the area has almost no conventional residential life. Modern arena architecture rises above the trees, and the approach through the forest is a defining part of the experience. Waldstadion’s distinctive character comes from this dramatic change of rhythm: a calm woodland sports campus can transform within hours into one of the region’s loudest and most collective public spaces.
