Sachsenhausen-Süd: Jacobiweiher
City part: Süd | State: 2025
Jacobiweiher is the largest pond in Frankfurt’s City Forest and one of its most popular excursion destinations. It was created in 1932 by damming the Königsbach, initially serving as a rainwater retention basin, and its winding outline has earned it the local nickname ‘Vierwaldstättersee’. A path circles the water, with a bridge shortening the route across the middle, while benches and forest clearings provide places to rest. The Oberschweinstiege restaurant stands at the western end, and the Green Belt anniversary trail passes nearby. Woodland, birdlife and reflections on the water create a landscape that feels far removed from the dense city, although tram access and nearby roads make it easy to reach. The area is recreational rather than residential, used for walking, running, cycling and family outings throughout the year. Jacobiweiher’s distinctive appeal lies in the combination of engineered water management and an apparently natural forest lake, whose irregular shores and mature trees form one of the most recognisable scenes in Frankfurt’s Green Belt.
