Sachsenhausen-Süd: Fritz-Kissel-Siedlung
City part: Süd | State: 2025
Fritz-Kissel-Siedlung is a planned post-war residential estate between Mörfelder Landstraße, Südfriedhof and the Frankfurt City Forest. Mid-rise apartment rows, schools, playgrounds and broad green courtyards create a clear neighbourhood structure with more open space than central Sachsenhausen. Buildings are set back from through traffic, and pedestrian paths link homes with local facilities, sports grounds and the forest edge. Tram and bus services on Mörfelder Landstraße provide access to Südbahnhof and the centre, while everyday shopping is concentrated at a few local points rather than along a continuous commercial street. Mature trees now soften the repeated housing forms and give the estate a settled character. The cemetery and forest create quiet boundaries and direct recreational routes, although the nearby main road remains audible in some sections. Fritz-Kissel-Siedlung is distinctive as a complete housing landscape: practical post-war planning, family infrastructure and immediate access to major green spaces combine in a calm southern urban setting.
