Alt-Praunheim
City part: Mitte-West | State: 2025
Alt-Praunheim contains the historic village core of Praunheim close to the Nidda. Narrow streets, older courtyard houses and small-scale residential buildings distinguish it from the planned modernist estates farther south and west. Local reference points include the old centre around Graebestraße, the Praunheimer Zehntscheune and access to the Nidda riverside paths. The district functions mainly as a compact residential area with a visibly older settlement structure. In Frankfurt’s statistical structure, Alt-Praunheim is associated with the broader Praunheim area. What makes the area distinctive is the legible contrast between inherited settlement patterns and later housing, infrastructure or redevelopment. Older plot boundaries, street widths and surviving buildings make the area’s history visible in everyday movement, even where later development has altered the wider setting. Courtyards, pedestrian links and shared green spaces are therefore important to how the larger housing forms function at neighbourhood level.
