Thalkirchen: Südseite

Südseite forms a distinct residential sub-area within Thalkirchen. Its character comes from the relationship between building scale, private or shared green space and the short routes used in everyday life. Larger roads and local centres remain accessible, but the interior is experienced mainly through entrances, courtyards, gardens and quieter streets. The Isar provides a continuous recreational corridor, linking riverbanks, cycling routes, swimming places and wooded slopes across several neighboring quarters. Older farmsteads, church settings, plot boundaries and inherited street lines are not merely historical remnants; they still guide orientation and give the area a smaller scale than the surrounding city. Private gardens and mature tree canopies soften the architecture, provide privacy and make seasonal change unusually present in the streetscape.
