Sachsenhausen-Nord: Deutschherrnviertel
City part: Süd | State: 2025
Deutschherrnviertel is a riverside quarter built largely on the former slaughterhouse grounds east of central Sachsenhausen. Apartment buildings, offices and landscaped spaces extend between the Main and the older neighbourhood streets, with the Deutschherrnbrücke and the European Central Bank opposite creating a striking metropolitan setting. The preserved Deutschherrn church and traces of older structures add historical reference points within a contemporary district. A river promenade supports walking, cycling and play, while cafés, childcare and services make it a lived district. Tram connections and nearby Ostendstraße station provide access to the centre, though traffic around the bridge approaches remains noticeable. Compared with Alt-Sachsenhausen, the street pattern is more open, planned and residential, with views across the water. Its distinctive quality is the transformation from industrial food-processing land into a dense urban waterfront, combining modern housing, public river access and some of Frankfurt’s strongest views of the ECB skyline.
