Nordend-West: Adickesallee
City part: Innenstadt III | State: 2025
Adickesallee is a northern inner-city corridor where housing, public institutions and heavy traffic meet. Broad carriageways and junctions form part of Frankfurt’s Alleenring, while the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek, police headquarters and educational facilities give the street importance beyond the neighbourhood. Apartment blocks from several periods line the avenue, but quieter residential streets begin to the south and north. Buses and trams, bicycle routes and access to the motorway network make the area practical, although traffic noise and air pollution are more pronounced along the main frontage. The Bertramswiesen and the Hessischer Rundfunk grounds introduce green and institutional spaces toward the west, while the Hauptfriedhof lies farther east. Street trees and setbacks soften some sections without disguising the scale of the road. Adickesallee is distinctive less as a cohesive residential quarter than as a metropolitan seam: it links Nordend, Dornbusch and Eckenheim while concentrating administration, culture and mobility along a single highly visible axis.
