Nordend-West: Holzhausenschlösschen
City part: Innenstadt III | State: 2025
Holzhausenschlösschen stands on a small island in Holzhausenpark and is one of Nordend’s most recognisable historic landmarks. The baroque moated manor, built for the Holzhausen family in the eighteenth century, now hosts concerts, readings and cultural events. Around it, lawns, old trees, a pond and playgrounds make the park a heavily used neighbourhood green space rather than a purely ornamental setting. Elegant Gründerzeit apartment buildings and villas line the surrounding streets, while Oeder Weg, schools and local cafés are within easy walking distance. The park’s enclosed scale creates a calm interior even though the city centre and major transport routes are close. Families, students and nearby residents use the grounds throughout the day, and the castle gives these everyday routines a strong visual focus. The area’s distinctive appeal lies in the combination of a refined historic estate, accessible public culture and ordinary neighbourhood recreation, all embedded within the dense residential fabric of western Nordend.
