Innenstadt: Gallusanlage
City part: Innenstadt I | State: 2025
Gallusanlage is the western section of Frankfurt’s historic Wallanlagen and one of the city’s sharpest meetings of park and skyline. It stretches between Münchener Straße and Taunustor, divided by Kaiserstraße and framed by bank towers, hotels and busy roads. The monumental euro sculpture in front of the former Eurotower is the best-known landmark, while old chestnut, robinia and maple trees create shade along the promenade. The park also contains Benno Elkan’s memorial to victims of the First World War and other sculptures that introduce quieter historical layers into the financial district. Commuters from the main station cross the lawns daily, office workers use the paths and benches at lunchtime, and the nearby Bahnhofsviertel adds an international street life. Traffic noise is constant at the edges, yet the mature greenery creates real spatial relief. Gallusanlage is distinctive because it is neither simply a city park nor merely a forecourt to skyscrapers: it is a lived urban corridor where finance, memory, transit and everyday recreation overlap.
