Innenstadt: Regenbogenviertel
City part: Innenstadt I | State: 2025
Frankfurt’s Regenbogenviertel is a compact northern Innenstadt area around Alte Gasse, Schäfergasse and nearby streets. It is linked to the city’s LGBTQ+ community, with bars, clubs, cafés, advice services and cultural initiatives giving it a visible identity, especially in the evening and during Pride events. The quarter lies near Zeil and Konstablerwache, so dense shopping, offices and transport connections surround its smaller nightlife streets. Historic fragments, post-war buildings and recent renovations stand side by side, producing a mixed and sometimes rough-edged streetscape rather than a uniform entertainment district. Restaurants and international businesses broaden the audience beyond nightlife, while residential buildings keep daily routines present. Activity and noise can change sharply between adjacent streets and times of day. It stands out because community history, queer visibility and central-city commerce remain closely interwoven, creating a social meeting place that has significance far beyond its limited physical size.
