Waldtrudering: Kolonie Waldfrieden
City part: Trudering-Riem | State: 2024
Kolonie Waldfrieden is a low-density residential settlement at the forest edge, characterized by small homes, gardens and quiet lanes. Its name reflects the secluded, green atmosphere that still defines the area. The forest edge changes the area’s daily geography: ordinary residential streets quickly open onto longer walking and cycling routes with a noticeably quieter soundscape. The hierarchy between access roads, pedestrian routes, shared courtyards and larger green spaces makes the original planning idea easy to understand on foot. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. Repeated building types create visual order, while courtyards, lawns and internal paths break down the scale and support play, walking and informal contact.
