Waldtrudering: Batschka-Siedlung
City part: Trudering-Riem | State: 2024
The Batschka-Siedlung is a modest post-war residential area shaped by orderly houses, gardens and quiet internal streets. Its intimate scale and stable community character distinguish it from the larger developments around it. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. The hierarchy between access roads, pedestrian routes, shared courtyards and larger green spaces makes the original planning idea easy to understand on foot. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity.
