Ramersdorf: Kustermann-Park

Kustermann-Park is a small landscaped green space surrounded by residential and commercial streets. Mature trees and quiet paths provide a valuable local pause within the denser eastern city. At its edges, the shift from traffic and built frontage to vegetation and open ground is often immediate, which gives the landscape a strong restorative effect. The greenery has a practical everyday role: it shortens the route to recreation, provides shade and play space, and visually separates different groups of buildings. Seasonal change is part of the experience: shade, flowering vegetation, autumn color and winter openness alter both the appearance and the intensity of use. Continuous paths link neighboring streets and districts, allowing the green space to function as both a destination and part of the everyday walking and cycling network. What makes the area especially interesting is the direct contrast between inherited structures and later development; the change can often be read within only a few streets.
