Ramersdorf: Mustersiedlung Ramersdorf
City part: Ramersdorf-Perlach | State: 2024
The Mustersiedlung Ramersdorf is a notable interwar housing ensemble created as a model of modern family living. Compact houses, gardens and a coherent architectural language give the settlement a distinctive, historically important character. Built from 1934 during the extensive remodelling of Ramersdorf under National Socialism, the model estate combines compact family houses, gardens and a coherent architectural language; its history therefore links housing reform with the politics of its period. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. Schools, playgrounds and short internal routes support a family-oriented daily routine, while local services reduce dependence on the larger city center.
