Nymphenburg: Hirschgarten
City part: Neuhausen-Nymphenburg | State: 2024
The Hirschgarten and Berduxweg area combines one of Munich’s largest beer gardens and parks with a modern residential quarter built on former railway land. Old trees, playgrounds and contemporary housing create a lively family atmosphere with strong recreational appeal. Former tracks and railway-sized plots explain the broad spaces and linear routes; newer buildings reinterpret this infrastructure rather than erasing it completely. Housing, offices and local services now overlap with traces of the former use, creating a quarter whose new identity still remains connected to earlier layers of the site. Strong public-transport access makes the area useful to a wider catchment, but also concentrates movement, noise and commercial activity around the main stops and corridors. What makes the area especially interesting is the direct contrast between inherited structures and later development; the change can often be read within only a few streets.
