Friedenheim: Am Lokschuppen
City part: Laim | State: 2024
Am Lokschuppen reflects Munich’s railway heritage and the redevelopment of former operational land. New housing and commercial buildings stand beside traces of tracks and industrial scale, giving the area a distinctly transitional urban character. Large parcels, robust buildings and technical infrastructure remain legible even where production has declined, so the area’s earlier working history still shapes its scale and atmosphere. Freight movements, shift changes and service traffic produce a rhythm very different from a residential quarter and show how closely employment infrastructure is woven into Munich’s urban fabric. Former tracks and railway-sized plots explain the broad spaces and linear routes; newer buildings reinterpret this infrastructure rather than erasing it completely. Housing, offices and local services now overlap with traces of the former use, creating a quarter whose new identity still remains connected to earlier layers of the site.
