Perlach: Peralohstraße
City part: Ramersdorf-Perlach | State: 2024
The micro-area around Peralohstraße follows one of the recognisable local routes through Perlach. Traffic and through-movement are concentrated along the street itself, whereas adjoining residential lanes, gardens or courtyards create a softer setting only a short distance away. This combination gives the immediate surroundings a character of their own. Neuperlach contributes large-scale post-war planning, pedestrian centers and extensive housing estates, but also mature greenery and a strong network of everyday services. Munich’s historical locality index records Perlach as early as 780/808 and locates the old center around St. Michael and Pfanzeltplatz; this long continuity remains central to the district’s identity. Older farmsteads, church settings, plot boundaries and inherited street lines are not merely historical remnants; they still guide orientation and give the area a smaller scale than the surrounding city. Private gardens and mature tree canopies soften the architecture, provide privacy and make seasonal change unusually present in the streetscape.
