Perlach: Neuer Südfriedhof

The Neuer Südfriedhof is a spacious landscaped cemetery with tree-lined avenues, water features and quiet memorial areas. Its park-like design creates a reflective green environment in the south of Munich. Water is not only a backdrop here; it directs walking and cycling routes, opens long views and creates informal places for rest, sport and summer recreation. The greenery has a practical everyday role: it shortens the route to recreation, provides shade and play space, and visually separates different groups of buildings. Graves, monuments and avenues preserve several historical layers, while the mature vegetation also gives the site ecological and recreational value for the surrounding district. The gates and perimeter mark a pronounced change in sound, speed and spatial order, separating the memorial landscape from the ordinary traffic of surrounding streets.
