Oberföhring: Isarinsel Oberföhring
City part: Bogenhausen | State: 2024
The Isarinsel Oberföhring is a wooded recreational island between the Isar and the canal below the Oberföhring weir. Riverside paths, lawns and informal barbecue spots give it a relaxed and less crowded alternative to the central Isar banks. The Isar provides a continuous recreational corridor, linking riverbanks, cycling routes, swimming places and wooded slopes across several neighboring quarters. Water is not only a backdrop here; it directs walking and cycling routes, opens long views and creates informal places for rest, sport and summer recreation. The river, lake or canal provides a clear line of orientation and opens the urban fabric, making distance and direction easier to perceive than in enclosed street blocks. Waterside routes support walking, cycling and informal rest, allowing recreation to be integrated into ordinary routines rather than requiring a separate excursion. Continuous paths link neighboring streets and districts, allowing the green space to function as both a destination and part of the everyday walking and cycling network.
