Neu-Freimann: Leopoldstraße

Neufreimann is a major new northern development area on former military land, planned for dense housing, schools and urban services. Construction activity and large open sites give it the atmosphere of a district still forming its identity. The conversion of former military land is part of the area’s identity: retained barracks or institutional structures stand beside new housing, schools and public spaces. Housing, offices and local services now overlap with traces of the former use, creating a quarter whose new identity still remains connected to earlier layers of the site. Ground-floor shops, cafés and everyday services keep the streets active and make many routine needs reachable without leaving the immediate area. Retained buildings, old alignments or traces of infrastructure give the new quarter depth and help explain the former use instead of allowing redevelopment to erase it completely.
