Lochhausen: Kolonie I
City part: Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied | State: 2024
The three colonies form a coherent historic housing landscape originally linked to industrial employment. Repeated house types, gardens and quiet streets create a strong sense of continuity and a distinctive workers’ settlement atmosphere. Freight movements, shift changes and service traffic produce a rhythm very different from a residential quarter and show how closely employment infrastructure is woven into Munich’s urban fabric. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. The hierarchy between access roads, pedestrian routes, shared courtyards and larger green spaces makes the original planning idea easy to understand on foot. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity.
