Fürstenried-West: Neuforstenried

Neuforstenried is a planned southwestern residential district of apartment estates, schools and generous greenery. Its modernist layout and direct access to the forest create a practical, family-oriented suburban atmosphere. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. The forest edge changes the area’s daily geography: ordinary residential streets quickly open onto longer walking and cycling routes with a noticeably quieter soundscape. Schools, playgrounds and short internal routes support a family-oriented daily routine, while local services reduce dependence on the larger city center. The hierarchy between access roads, pedestrian routes, shared courtyards and larger green spaces makes the original planning idea easy to understand on foot.
