Forstenried
City part: Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln | State: 2024
Forstenried combines an old village core with broad post-war residential areas and immediate access to the Forstenrieder Park forest. Historic houses, local shops and woodland paths give the district a grounded suburban atmosphere with a strong southern landscape connection. Older farmsteads, church settings, plot boundaries and inherited street lines are not merely historical remnants; they still guide orientation and give the area a smaller scale than the surrounding city. Private gardens and mature tree canopies soften the architecture, provide privacy and make seasonal change unusually present in the streetscape. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. The forest edge changes the area’s daily geography: ordinary residential streets quickly open onto longer walking and cycling routes with a noticeably quieter soundscape.
