Daglfing: VdK-Siedlung
City part: Bogenhausen | State: 2024
The VdK-Siedlung is a modest planned residential estate associated with post-war social housing and veterans’ support. Small homes, gardens and quiet streets create a stable, community-oriented atmosphere. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. The hierarchy between access roads, pedestrian routes, shared courtyards and larger green spaces makes the original planning idea easy to understand on foot. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. Repeated building types create visual order, while courtyards, lawns and internal paths break down the scale and support play, walking and informal contact.
