Aubing-Süd: Neuaubing und Am Westkreuz
City part: Aubing-Lochhausen-Langwied | State: 2024
Neuaubing and Am Westkreuz combine railway history, post-war housing and a major western transport hub. The mixture of older workers’ streets, high-rise estates and regional connections creates a practical, diverse urban edge. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. Strong public-transport access makes the area useful to a wider catchment, but also concentrates movement, noise and commercial activity around the main stops and corridors. Different languages, food cultures and patterns of use are visible in ordinary daily life, giving the area a more international character than its architecture alone would suggest. Morning commuting, daytime services and evening transfers give the area several distinct peaks of activity, so its atmosphere changes more quickly than in an ordinary residential quarter.
