Tonndorf: Ellerneck
City part: Wandsbek | State: 2025
The subarea known as Ellerneck gives this part of Tonndorf a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Ellerneck separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Tonndorf is described only as one large area. Older village traces and detached homes survive in quieter streets, while post-war apartment estates, commercial areas and newer housing create a more urban scale around Tonndorfer Hauptstraße. The Wandse and connected green paths lead toward Eichtalpark and provide walking and cycling away from traffic. Tonndorf’s special quality is its practical mix of ordinary housing and specialised media production: family neighbourhoods, industrial and commercial sites, a working television campus and a green river corridor coexist within a well-connected eastern location.
