Groß Borstel: Eppendorfer Moor
City part: Hamburg-Nord | State: 2025
Eppendorfer Moor is the main local green reference point in this part of Groß Borstel. The open or wooded landscape changes the scale of the surrounding streets and gives nearby housing a stronger connection to nature than the broader district description suggests. Paths, mature vegetation and the contrast between built-up blocks and open space are therefore central to the identity of this micro-area. Its older centre retains village traces and local reference points such as the Stavenhagenhaus, while the surrounding streets range from modest detached homes to substantial villas and small apartment buildings. Mature trees, gardens and pockets of woodland give much of the district a calm, enclosed atmosphere. The Tarpenbek and nearby Eppendorfer Moor form valuable green corridors for walking and cycling and provide a natural counterweight to the airport and major roads. Aircraft noise and traffic are noticeable, especially at the edges, yet many interior streets feel surprisingly secluded.
