Nordend-Ost: Günthersburgpark
City part: Innenstadt III | State: 2025
Günthersburgpark is the main recreational space in the densely populated eastern Nordend. Broad lawns, old trees, playgrounds, a water-play area and winding paths attract families, runners, school groups and people seeking shade throughout the year. The park developed from the grounds of the former Günthersburg estate and retains a landscape character that feels more spacious than the surrounding residential blocks. An adventure playground and informal sports areas make it especially active, while planned extensions toward the north reflect the shortage of public green space in the district. Berger Straße and Bornheim lie close to the south, and trams on Friedberger Landstraße provide public-transport access. At the edges, Gründerzeit streets, later housing and community facilities create several distinct entrances and neighbourhood relationships. Günthersburgpark’s special quality is its role as shared green infrastructure: it is not only a destination but also a daily route, playground, picnic ground and cooling landscape for a large part of Nordend and Bornheim.
