Lichterfelde: Goerzwerke
City part: Steglitz-Zehlendorf | State: 2025
Goerzwerke is a former industrial complex in Zehlendorf, now partly converted into creative and commercial spaces. Industrial scale and surviving historical elements create an atmosphere shaped equally by production and memory. The everyday rhythm of Goerzwerke is shaped by surviving large-scale structures, successive construction phases and new everyday routes through formerly specialised sites. Goerzwerke lies in the borough of Steglitz-Zehlendorf, about 14 km southwest of central Berlin. From Goerzwerke toward Schweizer Viertel and Lichterfelde Süd, density, land use and street character shift step by step rather than at a sharp edge. Around Goerzwerke, even a few minutes on foot can bring noticeable changes in noise, greenery and access to everyday services. The immediate streets and open spaces give Goerzwerke a recognisable local identity of its own. This gives Goerzwerke a distinctive quality: the continuity between an older working landscape and new urban life.
