Blankenburg: Blankenburger Süden
City part: Pankow | State: 2025
Blankenburger Süden is a broad transition landscape between Blankenburg and Heinersdorf, currently shaped by fields, allotment gardens and scattered low-rise development. Its open character and planned transformation into a major new urban quarter give the area a distinctive atmosphere between rural edge and future city. The everyday rhythm of Blankenburger Süden is shaped by larger plots, mature planting and a slower rhythm than in Berlin’s inner-city blocks. Blankenburger Süden lies in the borough of Pankow, about 7.9 km northeast of central Berlin. Blankenburger Süden merges gradually into Blankenburg and Märchenland; building scale, street activity and open space change before any clear boundary is felt. The immediate streets and open spaces give Blankenburger Süden a recognisable local identity of its own. This gives Blankenburger Süden a distinctive quality: the sense of privacy and local continuity found at the metropolitan edge.
