Pankow: Pankower Tor
City part: Pankow | State: 2025
Pankower Tor is a large former railway and commercial development area beside Pankow station. Tracks, vacant industrial land and plans for a new mixed quarter create a distinctly transitional atmosphere at the meeting point of established Pankow neighborhoods and major urban redevelopment. The everyday rhythm of Pankower Tor is shaped by surviving large-scale structures, successive construction phases and new everyday routes through formerly specialised sites. Pankower Tor lies in the borough of Pankow, about 6.2 km north of central Berlin. The transitions from Pankower Tor toward Garbátyplatz and Kissingenviertel are gradual, marked by changes in building form, traffic and greenery. The character of Pankower Tor is clearest along everyday routes between homes, public space and nearby destinations. This gives Pankower Tor a distinctive quality: the continuity between an older working landscape and new urban life.
