Sendlinger Feld: Brudermühlstraße
City part: Sendling | State: 2024
Brudermühlstraße forms a distinct street corridor within Sendlinger Feld. Building fronts, junctions and everyday movement along the road set a more active rhythm than in the quieter side streets, while nearby housing keeps the area closely tied to ordinary neighbourhood life. The transition between the main route and its calmer edges is the defining spatial feature. Sendling contributes a working-city tradition, railway and market infrastructure, and close access to the Isar, resulting in a grounded and highly practical urban character. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. Shared open spaces support play, informal encounters and short everyday routes, giving the ensemble a stronger neighborhood function than its architectural repetition might suggest. Schools, playgrounds and short internal routes support a family-oriented daily routine, while local services reduce dependence on the larger city center.
