Obersendling: Rohrauerstraße
City part: Thalkirchen-Obersendling-Forstenried-Fürstenried-Solln | State: 2024
The micro-area around Rohrauerstraße follows one of the recognisable local routes through Obersendling. Traffic and through-movement are concentrated along the street itself, whereas adjoining residential lanes, gardens or courtyards create a softer setting only a short distance away. This combination gives the immediate surroundings a character of their own. High-rise buildings, U-Bahn stations and nearby Isar slopes create an urban landscape still visibly in transition. Sendling contributes a working-city tradition, railway and market infrastructure, and close access to the Isar, resulting in a grounded and highly practical urban character. Large parcels, robust buildings and technical infrastructure remain legible even where production has declined, so the area’s earlier working history still shapes its scale and atmosphere. Freight movements, shift changes and service traffic produce a rhythm very different from a residential quarter and show how closely employment infrastructure is woven into Munich’s urban fabric.
