Mittersendling: Hinterbärenbadstraße
City part: Sendling-Westpark | State: 2024
Hinterbärenbadstraße forms a distinct street corridor within Mittersendling. Building fronts, junctions and everyday movement along the road set a more active rhythm than in the quieter side streets, while nearby housing keeps the area closely tied to ordinary neighbourhood life. The transition between the main route and its calmer edges is the defining spatial feature. The Isar provides a continuous recreational corridor, linking riverbanks, cycling routes, swimming places and wooded slopes across several neighboring quarters. Sendling contributes a working-city tradition, railway and market infrastructure, and close access to the Isar, resulting in a grounded and highly practical urban character. The interest lies in the continuity of the built fabric: older façades, courtyards and street proportions remain part of ordinary use rather than functioning as isolated monuments. Freight movements, shift changes and service traffic produce a rhythm very different from a residential quarter and show how closely employment infrastructure is woven into Munich’s urban fabric.
