Am Hart: Knorrstraße
City part: Milbertshofen-Am Hart | State: 2024
Knorrstraße forms a distinct street corridor within Am Hart. Building fronts, junctions and everyday movement along the road set a more active rhythm than in the quieter side streets, while nearby housing keeps the area closely tied to ordinary neighbourhood life. The transition between the main route and its calmer edges is the defining spatial feature. The Panzerwiese gives the northern neighborhoods direct access to a broad protected grassland whose open horizon is rare within Munich’s built-up area. The separation of traffic, housing and green space reveals the planning ideals of the post-war period, but mature vegetation has made the ensemble feel more settled and less schematic over time. Ground-floor shops, cafés and everyday services keep the streets active and make many routine needs reachable without leaving the immediate area. Mature trees and adapted everyday uses now soften the repetition of the original building types, adding variety and a stronger sense of lived-in continuity.
