Volksdorf: Allhorndiek

The subarea known as Allhorndiek gives this part of Volksdorf a more precise local identity. It is best understood through the immediate combination of housing, everyday routes, nearby open space and the way local streets connect with the rest of the district. Treating Allhorndiek separately helps expose small-scale differences in urban form and daily life that are easily lost when Volksdorf is described only as one large area. The pedestrianised centre around the market square offers shops, cafés, weekly markets, schools and cultural facilities, making the district largely self-sufficient. Sports clubs, community associations and local events reinforce a strong sense of identity. Volksdorf’s special quality is its unusually complete garden-suburb model: a real local centre, historic village culture, fast rail and extensive protected nature coexist without the district losing its independent, almost small-town character.
