Uhlenhorst: Feenteich

Feenteich is the clearest local landscape element in this part of Uhlenhorst. Water and the spaces immediately around it influence routes, views and the amount of openness between the surrounding streets, giving this micro-area a character that differs from drier and more densely built parts of the district. Treating Feenteich separately helps bring the waterside setting and its everyday recreational value into the description. The Alster shore, Feenteich and a network of canals give many streets direct visual contact with water and support rowing, sailing, running and walking. Mundsburg U3 station and numerous buses provide excellent public transport; central Hamburg is close by bicycle as well. Uhlenhorst’s special quality is its urban waterside intimacy: unlike broader suburban villa districts, it combines prestigious housing and green-blue scenery with dense local commerce, theatres and rapid access to the inner city, all within a compact neighbourhood scale.
