St. Georg: Lange Reihe
City part: Hamburg-Mitte | State: 2025
Lange Reihe is one of St. Georg’s best-known streets and functions as a genuine neighbourhood centre between Hamburg Hauptbahnhof and the Außenalster. Historic façades, cafés, restaurants, small independent shops and cultural venues create continuous street life, while side streets quickly become more residential. The street is closely associated with Hamburg’s LGBTQIA+ community and has long served as an important meeting place, giving the area a social identity that reaches beyond everyday shopping. Courtyards and passages contain studios, workshops and creative uses, including the Koppel 66 complex, adding another layer behind the active street front. The Hauptbahnhof is only a short walk away, so regional and city-wide transport is exceptionally accessible, yet the Alster shore and quieter streets toward the north provide an immediate counterbalance. The micro-area is therefore urban and lively without being defined solely by through-traffic.
